Hettenacles (Neohettes riffliteus) are a species of starnacles indigenous to the terrorsphere planet New Hette. They are filter-feeders, feeding upon drifting aeroplankton.
Found almost exclusively on a substance known as risslite, Hettenacles rest upon a long, muscular and segmented stalk (known as the pedunkle). The head (known as the capitulum) houses the primary body elements of the organism. It is from here that they unfurl their nearly-unnoticeable and surprisingly long flexible cirri for grabbing microorganisms to distribute to their comb-like mouthparts. These cirri can be a couple meters in full length. They have numerous eyes hidden in rows around the capitulum and they are known to glow with light blue bioluminescence, though the exact purpose of this glow is unclear. It is thought that it may help attract certain species of aeroplankton to them but little research has yet to be performed.
